October

October is our often our hottest month, however some years we also get rain.  In 2010, we had both.  Summer annuals and tropical plants continue to look great and fall blooming perennials are starting to put on their show.  Roses also have their last blooms of the season.  With a little planning, you can have a very colorful fall garden.

August

If we’ve had cool weather, there are still a plants blooming in August.  If we’ve had sunny hot weather many succulents start to show reddish colors.  Tropical plants and summer annuals are in full bloom this month.  However, much of the color in the garden comes from foliage plants.

Cactus Bloom
The garden in March is nearly in full bloom.  With the winter rains everything is growing and very alive.  March is also the peak bloom for many native plants in San Diego.   If rains have been good it is a great time to get out and hike some of the local trails.

January

January is the start of "Spring" in San Diego.  If we have had rain many plants start growing and many more start blooming.  This is especially true of plants from winter rain areas of the world, like Australia and South Africa.
Many of the large aloes are in bloom.  Many more are sending up their bloom stalks.  Everything is green and plumped up.
